TAMPA – Carlton Fields Tampa shareholder Wm. Cary Wright and Tampa associates Scott P. Pence and Lauren E. Catoe spoke at the Tampa Bay Chapter of the Construction Financial Management Association seminar entitled, “What’s in a Form? A Closer Look at the More Significant Provisions Within the AIA and ConsensusDOCS Standard Construction Contract Forms.”
The panel of speakers compared the more significant provisions within the AIA and ConsensusDOCS standard construction contract forms. They provided real-world, working perspectives of what these provisions mean from a legal perspective, including modifications typically requested by owners and developers and practical tips on modifications that should be negotiated by contractors and subcontractors. The program took place on September 23 at the Centre Club in Tampa.
Wright is Board Certified by The Florida Bar in Construction Law and has extensive experience representing clients in construction disputes. He also has substantial experience in contract drafting and contract review including the preparation of owner-contractor agreements and contractor-subcontractor agreements. Wright received his J.D., cum laude, from Stetson University College of Law and his B.S. from the University of Florida in Accounting, with honors.
Pence practices construction and real estate law. His practice is focused primarily on reviewing, drafting, and negotiating design and construction contracts for both public and private projects, where he represents owners, developers, contractors, and design professionals. He is a member of the ABA’s Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section and the Forum on the Construction Industry. He is on the Executive Council of the Real Property Probate and Trust Law Section of The Florida Bar of which he is also a member of the Construction Law Committee and the Green Building Subcommittee. Pence received his B.A. in Mathematics from George Mason University and his J.D. from William & Mary Law School.
Catoe’s practice includes advising clients on the planning and development of large-scale, complex construction projects, with a primary focus on contract preparation, review, and negotiation. She received her. J.D. from the University of Virginia School of Law and her B.S. from the University of Florida in Business Administration, Finance, with honors.
