Jeffrey Michael Cohen recently spoke at the American Bar Association (ABA) Litigation Section’s Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee CLE seminar held in Tucson, Arizona.
His presentation, “Institutional Bad Faith – Putting the Insurer’s Practices and Procedures on Trial,” focused on the prosecution and defense of bad faith actions alleging that the insurer’s business practices encouraged its claims personnel to disregard the rights of its policy holders.
The Insurance Coverage Litigation Committee focuses on diverse areas of substantive insurance coverage law and procedural aspects of insurance coverage litigation. All of its subcommittees are co-chaired by attorneys who typically represent policyholders, paired with lawyers who typically represent insurance companies, an arrangement that provides balance, promotes collegiality, and assures lively dialogue.
Cohen serves as Co-Chair of the Bad Faith Subcommittee, which studies emerging legal trends relating to the law of insurance bad faith claims and publishes articles for the ABA that educates the legal community about this specialized area of insurance law. Cohen is a member of Carlton Fields’ Insurance Litigation & Regulation Practice Group. He concentrates his practice in the trial of complex commercial and insurance lawsuits, and counseling clients involved in significant litigation. He earned his J.D. from the Columbia University School of Law and his A.B. from Colgate University. He is Board Certified by The Florida Bar as a Civil Trial Lawyer and an Adjunct Professor of Trial Skills at the University of Miami School of Law.
