
Tampa, Fla. – Carlton Fields’ former President, A. Broaddus Livingston, passed away on September 25, 2011 in Tampa, Florida. He was 80 years old.
Livingston practiced at Carlton Fields from 1955 until his retirement in January 2003. He excelled as a trial attorney, heading the firm’s trial department for many years. He was a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers. He served as President of the firm from 1981 until 1991 and then as Chair of the firm’s Board of Directors from 1991 until 1995. Livingston served as Assistant City Attorney for the City of Tampa from 1959 to 1963.
Gary L. Sasso, the current President and CEO of Carlton Fields stated, “Broaddus was a superb trial lawyer and beloved leader of our firm. He was a mentor and friend to many of us, and we will never forget him.”
Livingston served on the Board of Governors for The Florida Bar’s Junior Bar Section (1959-1966) and as chair of the Bar’s Trial Section (1975-1976). He was a member of the American Bar Association; Hillsborough County Bar Association (recipient of the Herbert G. Goldburg Outstanding Trial Lawyer of the Year); American Bar Foundation; Federation of Insurance and Corporate Counsel; and a past president of the Florida Defense Lawyers Association (1973-1974).
Livingston received his B.A. from Vanderbilt University in 1952 and his J.D. from the University of Florida College of Law in 1955.
Memorial Services
The funeral service for A. Broaddus Livingston will be held on Friday, October 7, 2011 at 2:00 p.m. at Hyde Park United Methodist Church, 500 W. Platt St., Tampa, FL, 33606. Parking is off of South Magnolia.
