Representative Community Projects

ATLANTA

In August 2008, attorneys and staff from Carlton Fields' Atlanta office volunteered with Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County to build a home for a deserving family in Atlanta.  In September 2008, Carlton Fields celebrated the firm’s commitment to building a better Atlanta community with an Open House Reception honoring Habitat for Humanity of DeKalb County. Approximately 250 firm guests attended the Open House during which Habitat for Humanity discussed their programs and showcased photos from the construction site. The reception also provide an opportunity for the firm to thank Habitat for Humanity and present its representatives with a financial donation to be used toward the building of a home in DeKalb County.

MIAMI

In April 2008, a Carlton Fields team participated in the annual Miami-Dade County Baynanza Biscayne Bay clean up. The firm has had a clean-up team involved with this project every year since opening the Miami office in 1997.

The Miami office was recently honored for helping to raise money for the Miami-Dade County Law Library.

Carlton Fields’ Miami office participated in the Mercedes-Benz Corporate Run in April 2008. Proceeds from the event were donated to the South Florida chapter of The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

In November 2007, Carlton Fields attorney and staff assisted in the 3rd Annual Great American Teach-A-Thon, a program which recruits volunteers to teach a Miami-Dade County class for a day. Organized by The Education Fund, the Teach-A-Thon is a Miami-based independent nonprofit organization that works with Miami-Dade County schools to link businesses to the classroom.

ORLANDO

In December 2007, the Orlando office provided toys and gift cards to the women and children at the Women’s Residential & Counseling Center (WRCC). WRCC is an important resource for single moms who are homeless or the victims of domestic violence. WRCC is a 138-bed facility that includes emergency beds for victims of domestic abuse. Carlton Fields’ Orlando office donated toys valued at $20 for each of the 40 children living at the shelter, in addition to providing $20 gift cards for each of the 45 women at the shelter.

The Orlando office is currently running a food drive for the Second Harvest Food Bank in Orlando.

ST. PETERSBURG

As part of the St. Petersburg Mayor’s Mentors & More Program, Carlton Fields’ St. Petersburg office became a Corporate Partner for Bay Vista Fundamental Elementary School. As a Corporate Partner, Carlton Fields provided the following support for the school:

  • Volunteering: This includes mentors, tutors, and other extra hands the partner provides the school.
  • Resources: This includes financial support, equipment donations, gift certificate donations, and fundraising on behalf of the school.
  • Strategic Planning: This area includes long-range ways the partner aids the school, such as creating internship programs for their students and providing leadership support for the school’s administrators.

TALLAHASSEE

Members of the Tallahassee office participated in WFSU Public Radio’s Corporate Challenge Grant program in October 2007. Attorneys and staff from the office manned the phones during the radio station’s membership drive.

In August 2007, The Tallahassee office sponsored the kickoff of the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer initiative. The Tallahassee office also participated in the 2007 Making Strides Against Breast Cancer Walk. The event raised over $125,000 dollars to be used for breast cancer research.

Every year the Tallahassee office contributes to a holiday charity. In 2007 the office adopted a family in need through The Christmas Connection, a Catholic charity. The Christmas Connection assigned the Tallahassee office the Miller family. The office collected approximately $1,500 in items for the Miller family. Each family member received their “wish” gift which included a King comforter set, MP3 players, a Barbie doll, Bratz’ dolls, and a walker for the baby. Additionally, the firm provided the family with clothes, sheets, comforters, diapers, toiletries, and a special holiday dinner including a largespiral cut ham.

TAMPA

Carlton Fields, together with attorneys from around Hillsborough County, recently participated in the Hillsborough County Bar Association Community Liaison Committee's Lawyers for Literacy program. The HCBA committee spearheads a fund drive to purchase books for students in Head Start facilities throughout Hillsborough County. In 2008 the committee surpassed their goal and raised enough funds to purchase one book for every child enrolled in the Head Start program. The committee also recruits HCBA attorneys to personally visit the Head Start classes, deliver the books, and read to the children for one hour. The committee had enough volunteers, including a number of attorneys from Carlton Fields’ Tampa office, to send readers to every Head Start classroom on distribution day on May 1, 2008.

As part of their involvement in Leadership Westshore, attorneys from the Tampa office helped to raise funds to construct a new “Grief Cave” at The LifePath Hospice Circle of Love Center for Grieving Children.

Through the office’s involvement in the United Way of Tampa Bay Campaign, Carlton Fields employees donated over $96,000 in 2008 to help aid many agencies in the Tampa Bay area and to make a measurable difference in the lives of people in our community.  Additionally, the Tampa office annually participates in the United Way Children’s Book Drive, donating over 300 books for children in low-income elementary schools.
