Carlton Fields’ Summer Associate Program is an integral part of our associate hiring program. Former Carlton Fields summer associates make up a majority of each year’s fall entry-level associate class.
The goal of our program is to provide summer associates with a realistic view of life as an attorney at Carlton Fields, as well as to expose them to as many different practice groups and lawyers as possible. Summer associates have opportunities to meet with firm clients to observe and participate in all aspects of the firm’s practice, whether in the office, at the closing table, or in the courtroom.
What makes Carlton Fields’ Summer Associate Program unique? Carlton Fields summer associates work with attorneys from all levels, including attorneys with over 30 years of experience such as Reece Smith and Sylvia Walbolt. Unlike most summer associate programs, Carlton Fields encourages summer associates to participate in the firm’s pro bono initiatives and programs with local legal aid societies. Additionally, there are opportunities for summer associates to become involved in Bar, civic, and community activities.

- The American Lawyer Summer Associate Survey
Carlton Fields ranked #29 in The American Lawyer’s Summer Associate Survey, an annual survey conducted nationwide that measures summer associates’ job satisfaction. Summer associates are law students that clerk at law firms through the summer. The survey is based on the responses from over 7,300 summer associates from 195 firms throughout the country.
- The American Lawyer Satisfaction Survey of Mid-Level Associates
Carlton Fields ranked 18th nationally in the 2007 American Lawyer Satisfaction Survey of Mid-Level Associates, up nine spots from our 27th place ranking in the 2006 survey. The American Lawyer rankings are based on surveys of mid-level associates in 189 of the country's top firms.
