The Office of Economic and Demographic Research (“EDR”) is the research arm of the Florida Legislature principally focused on forecasting economic and social trends that affect policy making, revenues, and appropriations. The EDR prepares an Economic Overview report of the state on a quarterly basis, typically presented in an easy-to-understand graphic format. On a positive note, the May 2012 edition reports that Florida’s economic growth has returned to positive territory after declining for 2 consecutive years, but Florida’s job market will take a long time to recover. Florida’s population growth is forecast to remain relatively flat until 2014, but is expected to increase slightly later. Florida is on target to break the 20 million population mark during 2016, and becoming the third most populous state in the U.S.
