Jay Steinman practices in the areas of commercial real estate, finance and business law. He represents domestic and international financial institutions, real estate development companies, privately held entities, and entrepreneurs.
Mr. Steinman has developed his extensive skills in loan work-out transactions through two economic downturns and is adept at identifying issues and suggesting solutions to problem loan transactions. As a result of his more than 25 years of experience representing holders of mortgages involving troubled real estate projects, Mr. Steinman has also developed vast experience in the representation of purchasers of distressed real estate and loan portfolios, including providing creative solutions to resolve adverse issues affecting the properties and strategies for their successful reemployment. He handles loan document analysis, loan modifications/forbearances, and loan judgment and REO sales.
Mr. Steinman provides representation for the acquisition, development, construction, and disposition of all varieties of commercial real estate projects. He has been involved with these projects through all phases, including the drafting of complicated agreements, participation in developing strategies regarding identification of capital and financing sources and the structure thereof, and land use, environmental, leasing, and other operational issues.
Mr. Steinman frequently represents financial institutions in commercial real estate matters, including syndicated loan facilities, loan participations, mezzanine financing, construction loan financing, and complex business/corporate loan transactions involving real estate and non-real estate collateral. He provides financial institutions reference materials and continuing education and advice on lending issues for such clients and has developed and drafted legal forms for all types of loan and work-out transactions.
