Overview

Mac McCoy is a seasoned and pragmatic counselor and litigator with extensive experience as a U.S. Magistrate Judge, business litigator, and settlement facilitator adept in all aspects of federal and state civil litigation and dispute resolution.

Mac draws upon almost a decade as a U.S. Magistrate Judge in the Middle District of Florida. During his tenure, he thrived as a generalist, capable of diving into any litigation and becoming a subject matter expert quickly and efficiently. In doing so, he applied his expansive background in class action litigation, complex commercial litigation, e-discovery, negotiation, and legal technology. He also facilitated successful settlement conferences between parties, using a hybrid facilitative and evaluative approach with a view toward pragmatic problem-solving. In this capacity, he continues to serve as a neutral in alternative dispute resolution, early case evaluation, mediation, arbitration, discovery referee work, and court-appointed neutral (formerly known as “special master”) work.

Passionate about evolving legal practices, Mac publishes and speaks prolifically on federal practice and civil procedure, class actions, e-discovery, mediation, legal ethics, access to justice, and professional development. He is also deeply committed to the legal profession and the community, including serving as the current chair-elect of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section, the largest section of the ABA with more than 30,000 business law professionals worldwide.
