Overview
With nearly 25 years of broad litigation experience — including eight years on the federal bench — Mac McCoy is a tested advocate, trusted neutral, and respected leader in the legal profession.
From 2015 to 2023, Mac served as a U.S. magistrate judge for the Middle District of Florida. On the federal bench, he presided over a broad spectrum of civil and criminal matters, quickly mastering new subject areas and earning a reputation for fairness, efficiency, and deep legal insight. Now in private practice, Mac draws on his judicial experience to help clients craft practical, winning strategies in high-stakes, complex litigation.
Mac represents clients across multiple industries nationwide in business disputes, consumer litigation, employment litigation, insurance coverage claims, class actions, and mass torts. He has specific experience representing clients in consumer class actions, representations and warranties (R&W) insurance disputes, technology industry litigation, and multijurisdictional product liability matters. Whether leading trial teams or advising behind the scenes, Mac brings strategic focus, credibility, and a deep understanding of how trial judges think.
In addition to his litigation practice, Mac serves as a neutral in a wide variety of roles, including:
- Mediator
- Arbitrator
- Mock Bench Judge (specific motions or full trial presentation)
- Discovery Referee (especially in cases involving electronically stored information)
- Court-Appointed Neutral (under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 53 or Florida Rule of Civil Procedure 1.490)
- Private Judge (under Florida Statutes section 44.104)
Mac is certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a circuit civil, county, and appellate mediator. He is also a certified mediator in the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. Mac mediates a broad spectrum of cases initiated in Florida state and federal courts, including class actions, contract disputes, defamation actions, employment disputes, consumer actions, and Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA) claims.
Mac is also a panelist with the American Arbitration Association (AAA) National Roster of Arbitrators (Commercial Panel) and a Florida-qualified arbitrator. He is an approved court-appointed arbitrator in the Sixth, Ninth, Tenth, Twelfth, Thirteenth, and Twentieth Judicial Circuit Courts of Florida.
A nationally recognized bar leader, Mac served as the 2024–2025 chair of the American Bar Association’s Business Law Section, representing more than 30,000 members worldwide. He is widely respected for his collaborative approach to leadership and commitment to advancing the profession.
