MIAMI – The South Florida Business Journal honored Miami Shareholders Michael S. Pasano and Steven J. Brodie at its 2009 Key Partners Awards cocktail reception on Thursday, November 12, at the Design Center of the Americas in Dania Beach. Pasano won in the White Collar Crime category. Brodie was a finalist in the Government Contracts/Lobbying category.

“It is an honor to be among the best of the best in the South Florida business community,” said Charles M. Rosenberg, Managing Shareholder of Carlton Fields’ Miami Office. “These achievements reinforce Carlton Fields’ longstanding commitment to excellence.”

The Key Partners Awards was created to honor South Florida’s top attorneys and accountants, based on demonstrated success during the past 18 months.

Pasano was recognized for his work in securing an acquittal for Val M. Northcutt, who was a target of an international criminal price fixing and big rigging investigation involving marine hoses that was brought by the Antitrust Division of the United States Department of Justice in the fall of 2008.

Brodie was named a finalist based on his successful lobbying efforts on behalf of Los Angeles-based Live Nation, the national concert promoter. In July 2008, Brodie successfully secured an approval from the Miami City Commission that allowed Live Nation to manage downtown Miami’s Bayfront Park Amphitheatre.

Pasano focuses his practice primarily on complex criminal and civil litigation in both federal and state court. He also handles appeals. His areas of concentration include the defense of a wide variety of white collar matters, including fraud and money-laundering; forfeitures; tax issues; FDA, FTC and SEC cases; antitrust and environmental issues; and others.

In addition to his government consulting work, Brodie is a commercial litigator in state and federal courts. His practice includes civil litigation with a focus on insurance, business disputes and general commercial issues. He also has extensive experience in insurance-related litigation, including coverage, defense, and regulatory matters. Brodie's commercial litigation experience includes employment, intellectual property, antitrust, and regulatory matters among other types of complex commercial disputes. He also serves as outside general counsel for several companies. He received his law degree cum laude from the University of Miami and his undergraduate degree with high honors from Tulane University.
