Carlton Fields white collar crime attorney Simon Gaugush was quoted in a Law360 article, “‘Predictable’: Sussmann Verdict Leaves Durham Probe In Bind,” about U.S. v. Michael Sussmann in which Sussmann was acquitted on a charge that he lied to the FBI regarding a tip alleging ties between the Trump Organization and Russia before the 2016 presidential election.

“This outcome was predictable,” advised Gaugush. “The government had a weak case. It overplayed its hand.” Gaugush went further to state that the special counsel’s office “should be having second thoughts about any additional prosecutions. Anything that hinges on a successful prosecution of Sussmann I think would be a very perilous matter to see through.”
