Carlton Fields cybersecurity and privacy attorneys Christina Gagnier and Joe Swanson were quoted in a Tampa Bay Business Journal article, “Exclusive: Top Tampa Law Firm Launches Cybersecurity Consultancy.” The consultancy, CTRL, will cover a range of services, from building data ethics and compliance programs to contracts and vendor management and helping businesses earn certifications.
Gagnier, president of CTRL, notes that “compliance is a priority for any business. Authorities are actively enforcing existing privacy regulations, proposing new obligations and scaling up data privacy enforcement.”
Swanson, vice president of CTRL, predicts an uptick in litigation using the False Claims Act against companies who assure compliance with cybersecurity protocols, stating that “because of how arcane many of these regulations are and how difficult it is to be secure, almost everybody is going to have some problem if you really probe a company’s system.”
