Los Angeles, Calif. - Carlton Fields Los Angeles Shareholder Barry Leigh Weissman was appointed to the State Bar of California’s Council on Access and Fairness (COAF). He is serving a three-year term.

COAF serves as the State Bar Diversity “think tank” and comprises 25 judges, lawyers, and public members from diverse practice settings and constituencies. Council members prepare and provide guidance on a long-term strategic plan that supports creating equal opportunities for diverse students to receive education and information about the legal profession and judicial system; encouraging the recruitment, hiring, promotion, and retention of minorities, women, LGBT, seniors, and persons with disabilities within the legal arena; and ensuring procedural fairness and substantive justice for all stakeholders in the state.

Carlton Fields has been recognized as a leading law firm for diversity. For the second consecutive year, the firm was recognized among the most diverse law firms in the country, ranking in the top 20 (No. 13) in American Lawyer magazine’s 2018 Diversity Scorecard. Law360’s Glass Ceiling Report ranked Carlton Fields 5th in its tier of 300 to 599 attorneys for its percentage of female equity partners. The firm consistently ranks as a top law firm in the country for Diversity by Vault, and it has received the distinction of “Best Place to Work for LGBT Equality” for nine consecutive years by the Human Rights Campaign Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index. In 2017, Law360’s Diversity Snapshot ranked the firm 2nd in its tier of 300 to 599 attorneys for percentage of minority equity partners. The Leadership Council on Legal Diversity (LCLD) named Carlton Fields a Top Performer. The firm is one of only 52 LCLD organizations that earned this distinction for its participation in and support of the organization’s mission.

At Carlton Fields, Weissman focuses his practice in the insurance and reinsurance industries. He represents companies in regulatory and transactional matters, as well as in all forms of dispute resolution, including arbitration, litigation, and mediation in state and federal courts on bad faith, complex litigation, and multidistrict matters.
