Carlton Fields Adds Five Attorneys

Carlton Fields is pleased to welcome five associates in two of its offices, expanding three different practice groups.

Atlanta

Alexander W. Hegner is a member of the firm’s Real Estate and Commercial Finance Practice. He represents lenders, investors, owners, financial institutions, and other clients in commercial real estate financings involving acquisition, bridge, construction, permanent, mezzanine, and subordinate loans. Prior to law school, he served as a congressional aide in the Georgia House of Representatives. Hegner earned three degrees from Georgia State University: his J.D., magna cum laude; M.B.A.; and B.S., summa cum laude.

Miami

Dimitrije Canic is a member of the firm’s Life, Annuity, and Retirement Litigation Practice. He has experience in securities arbitration claims before the Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) and in class action litigation. During law school, Canic served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Jose E. Martinez of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida and to the Honorable Carroll J. Kelly of the Eleventh Judicial Circuit of Florida. He is fluent in Serbian, Croatian, Bosnian, and Montenegrin. He earned his J.D., cum laude, and B.S. from the University of Miami.

Brianna E. Donet is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation Practice. Her practice includes mass tort and product liability matters. Donet represents a global chemical company in its asbestos personal injury and wrongful death cases in South Florida. She also defends a global pharmaceutical and consumer goods manufacturer in talc-related personal injury and wrongful death cases filed throughout Florida. Donet was a Carlton Fields summer associate in 2017 and 2018. She is proficient in Spanish. Donet earned her J.D. from Washington University School of Law and her B.A. and B.S., cum laude, from the University of Florida.

Michael C. Shepherd is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation Practice whose experience also includes white collar criminal defense. During law school, he was a judicial extern to Justice Robert J. Luck of the Florida Supreme Court and to Judge L. Clayton Roberts of Florida’s First District Court of Appeal. Shepherd is a U.S. Army veteran who served in Afghanistan as a scout platoon leader, earning the Bronze Star Medal and Combat Action Badge, and subsequently served as an executive officer. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and his B.S. from the U.S. Military Academy at West Point.

Michael G. Zilber is a member of the firm’s Business Litigation Practice. His experience includes handling matters involving claims of breach of contract, tortious interference with business relationships, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation. He was a Carlton Fields summer associate in 2018. During law school, Zilber served as a judicial intern to the Honorable Adalberto Jordan of the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit and to the Honorable Beth Bloom of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida. He earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law and his B.A. from the University of Maryland.
