Carlton Fields Earns Perfect Score in Corporate Equality Index for 11th Consecutive Year

January 24, 2020

Carlton Fields earned a perfect score of 100 percent on the 2020 Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation’s Corporate Equality Index (CEI), designating the firm as a “Best Place to Work for LGBTQ Equality” for the 11th year in a row. The rating recognizes the firm’s LGBTQ-friendly policies and practices and its devotion to workplace equality.

“Carlton Fields is truly honored to receive this recognition,” Chief Diversity Officer Nancy Faggianelli said. “Diversity and inclusion have been core values of the firm throughout its history. We believe that diversity enriches our work environment, adds value to the legal services we provide, and enhances the overall culture of the firm.”

The 2020 CEI evaluates LGBTQ-related policies and practices, including non-discrimination policies; employment benefits; support for an inclusive culture and corporate responsibility, including public commitment to LGBTQ equality; and responsible citizenship. Carlton Fields is one of only 123 law firms in the country who earned a 100 percent rating.

“These companies know that protecting their LGBTQ employees and customers from discrimination is not just the right thing to do — it is also the best business decision,” HRC President Alphonso David said. “In addition, many of these leaders are also advocating for the LGBTQ community and equality under the law in the public square.”

Carlton Fields’ leadership is committed to advocating for LGBTQ protections. Most recently, as a member of the Florida Competes coalition, Carlton Fields expressed support for the Florida Competitive Workforce Act, which seeks to expand the 1992 Florida Civil Rights Act to include nondiscrimination protections for sexual orientation and gender identity in the workplace and in public housing and accommodations.

Additionally, Carlton Fields is one of only three law firms in the country to rank in the top 10 of all five diversity categories in the 2020 Vault Best Law Firms for Diversity Rankings. The firm ranks 2nd in the nation as the overall “Best Law Firm for Diversity.”
