HARTFORD, CT – Gwaina Wauldon has joined Carlton Fields as senior counsel in the firm’s Labor and Employment and Education practices in Hartford.

Wauldon focuses her practice on education, labor, and employment law, with significant experience in Title IX and compliance with state and federal anti-discrimination and anti-harassment laws. She is a thought leader on diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging, and has represented companies, colleges, universities, and schools in a variety of employment, labor, education, and special education matters, including special education due process hearings, government investigations, student discipline, residency, and school accommodations proceedings. She also advises clients on education-related policies and procedures and conducts internal investigations into allegations of discrimination, retaliation, sexual harassment, and other misconduct, as well as claims involving alleged violations of Title IX.

“We are very pleased to add such a distinguished professional to our team,” said James Sconzo, chair of Carlton Fields’ Labor and Employment and Education practices. “Gwaina’s extensive experience will help our clients navigate the complex and ever-changing regulations imposed on them.”

Prior to entering private practice, Wauldon was an attorney for the Connecticut Technical Education and Career System, Connecticut’s largest high school system, where she advised on a variety of school law topics and employment and labor relations matters. Before that, she worked as the executive director of equal opportunity programs and Title IX compliance at the University of Hartford and as the Title IX coordinator and director of student accessibility services for the University of Bridgeport. Wauldon also served as program director for Families in Crisis Inc., a criminal justice agency where she assisted Connecticut clients statewide in domestic violence and reentry programs.

“Carlton Fields is known as a go-to firm for many of the country’s top companies and educational institutions,” said Wauldon. “I’m excited to join this dynamic team and look forward to the opportunities ahead.”

Wauldon earned her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law, her M.S., summa cum laude, from Buffalo State College, and her B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Buffalo.
