MIAMI, FL – Carlton Fields has named Vanessa Singh Johannes co-managing shareholder of the firm’s Miami office. She takes over from Amy Furness who was in the role since 2015. In addition to her busy practice, Furness will dedicate more time to the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce as chair of the board of directors beginning in June. Steve Brodie remains as co-managing shareholder.

“Vanessa is an outstanding lawyer, and is well-known throughout the Miami area for her skill and ability to connect with a jury. Her leadership will be invaluable to the continued success of the office, the firm, and our clients,” said Brodie. “Amy has been a trusted partner and ally over the past several years through some uniquely challenging times. I appreciate her partnership as co-managing shareholder.”

Johannes is an experienced trial attorney focused on complex criminal and civil matters. She represents clients, including Fortune 500 companies, in a variety of white collar matters involving fraud, antitrust, and environmental issues. She previously served as an assistant U.S. attorney for the Southern District of Florida for over a decade, trying dozens of federal jury trials and handling appellate matters before the Eleventh Circuit Court of Appeals.

“I am excited for the opportunity to help lead an office where I am surrounded by colleagues committed to the success of our clients and a passion for our community,” said Johannes.

Carlton Fields opened its Miami office in 1997 and offers a full range of legal services to clients across a wide variety of practices and industries. In Miami, the firm’s lawyers handle matters involving litigation, class action defense, high-stakes appeals, white collar crime, insurance, and sophisticated business transactions. Its location in the gateway to Latin America is especially beneficial as the firm provides corporate counseling for domestic and international clients.
