West Palm Beach, Fla. – The Daily Business Review named Carlton Fields as winners of its 2016 Most Effective Lawyers Awards in the Complex/Business Litigation and Product Liability categories.
In the Complex/Business Litigation contest, Carlton Fields West Palm Beach Shareholders James B. Baldinger, M. Derek Harris, Stacey K. Sutton and Atlanta Shareholder Gail Podolsky pursued a civil case against cellphone traffickers from Detroit-based Ace Wholesale, Inc. on behalf of a large telecommunications client. The attorneys obtained a $23 million judgment – the largest verdict of its kind in Georgia for the asserted computer fraud claims -- plus a criminal conviction for Ace principal Jason Floarea. Defendants in six other indictments will go to trial in Atlanta in January.
In the Products Liability contest, West Palm Beach Shareholder Stephen J. Krigbaum, who chairs the firm’s products liability practice group, led a team of attorneys who reduced a substantial backlog of nearly 1,100 asbestos cases in the Miami-Dade Circuit Court’s asbestos division by getting them dismissed or settled before discovery. Nearly 70 percent of the cases involved firm client, Union Carbide Corp.
The team included Carlton Fields West Palm Beach Shareholders Ryan S. Cobbs and Garth T. Yearick, Tampa Shareholders Matthew J. Conigliaro, Kevin P. McCoy, Miami Shareholder Angela Puentes-Leon, Miami Associate Gregory Boulos and West Palm Beach Associate Ashley C. Drumm.
