Gene Rossi Quoted in Newsweek: “Justice Alito's Call With Trump 'Entirely Inappropriate'—Legal Analyst”
Gene Rossi was interviewed by Newsweek, in an article titled “Justice Alito's Call With Trump 'Entirely Inappropriate'—Legal Analyst.” The article discusses a recent call between Supreme Court Justice Samuel Alito and President-elect Donald Trump, which has drawn sharp criticism due to a matter involving Trump’s sentencing in his New York hush money case pending before the Supreme Court.
Rossi told Newsweek, "Under normal circumstances, if President Trump had called Justice Alito to inquire about a [former] law clerk, that would not have been improper. What makes the call highly unethical for Mr. Trump to make the call and for Justice Alito to take it is that Justice Alito and Trump both knew that a key issue was about to be before the court on whether Trump's sentencing would be continued. For many Americans, this call by President Trump to Justice Alito is a significant reaffirmation of the public's skepticism about the impartiality of the [Supreme Court]."
