Recap: Third Annual Appellate Forum for Trial Lawyers

October 30, 2015 3:01 PM | Posted by Christine Davis Graves | Print this page

The Appellate Practice and Trial Support Practice Group of Carlton Fields held its Third Annual Appellate Forum for Trial Lawyers on October 23, 2015, in Miami, Florida.  This free half-day CLE seminar is offered to trial lawyers, during which our appellate specialists provide the appellate lawyer’s unique view on all aspects of trial. In a small group and conversational setting, our appellate advocates share hard-won and surprising tips, as well as important new developments in the law.

We discussed, among other things, new developments in the law relating to voir dire, Florida’s relatively-new Daubert standard for the admissibility of expert testimony, and handling improper conduct by opposing counsel. The event also included a discussion with former appellate court judge Peter Webster, during which participants were able to ask a range of questions relating to law and procedure. Finally, we had an additional segment section on cybersecurity law, during which our former federal prosecutor and current member of our cybersecurity task force, Joseph Swanson, discussed cybersecurity threats, trends in cybersecurity litigation, and how to prepare for and respond to cybersecurity threats.
