Overview

Ty Giltinan is a licensed patent attorney whose practice includes patent, trademark, and copyright litigation, prosecution, portfolio management, and transactional matters. While Ty works with clients in a variety of industries, his practice tends to focus on assisting technology companies in their efforts to protect, monetize, and defend their intellectual property assets. He also assists clients in matters involving privacy and data breach issues.

Ty’s litigation experience includes matters involving patent infringement in a variety of technology areas, copyright infringement, trade secret disputes, and trademark and unfair competition matters. In addition to helping clients face litigation challenges, Ty also works with clients to develop, monetize, and grow international portfolios of IP assets, and represents clients in IP licensing, M&A, and other transactional matters. His software and technology background has proven particularly helpful to clients when prosecuting software-related patents, and negotiating cloud-based service provider and outsourcing arrangements, often involving complex issues of data privacy and security.

Prior to entering law school, Ty spent more than a decade as an engineer and entrepreneur in software and internet companies. As both a founder and an executive, he has helped develop startup technology companies and lead them to prominent market positions and through acquisitions by companies including large telecommunications providers. He has lectured extensively on IP law, software engineering, and software quality, and served as a mentor to students seeking careers in technology-related industries. Ty also teaches patent law at Stetson University College of Law, has taught computer science at New College of Florida, and has lectured extensively in the areas of software quality and software development processes.

Ty's real-world experience in business and technology enables him to approach his clients' challenges from a holistic perspective. His focus is always on finding practical approaches to achieving business goals while simultaneously managing complex legal risks.

Ty is board certified in intellectual property law by the Florida Bar.
