Overview

Jeff Miles is a strategic trial lawyer with more than a decade of experience representing clients in high-stakes disputes before state and federal courts, as well as in mediation, arbitration, and other alternative dispute resolution forums. Jeff is recognized for his unwavering commitment to his clients and his ability to devise and execute sophisticated litigation strategies that drive favorable outcomes. Jeff’s practice spans complex business, intellectual property, internet, First Amendment, entertainment, and media law, as well as partnership and LLC disputes, and securities, corporate governance, and defamation cases. Known for bringing clarity to the most challenging disputes, Jeff crafts creative, results-oriented approaches — often through dispositive motion practice that drives the resolution of a case. Jeff’s advocacy extends across the full arc of litigation, from intensive pre-filing investigations through trial, post-trial motions, and appeals.

Jeff’s experience in entertainment, intellectual property, internet, media, and art litigation is significant. He has represented a diverse roster of clients — including media companies, agencies, talent, entrepreneurs, tech startups, artists, inventors, and global brands — in multimillion-dollar disputes and contentious litigation involving backend profit participation, copyright and trademark infringement, and brand enforcement. Jeff has litigated high-profile copyright matters for filmmakers, major studios, and production music libraries, and has frequently acted for renowned visual artists and their estates in infringement actions. His trademark practice encompasses federal litigation, TTAB proceedings, defending cancellation claims, and trademark prosecution.

At the forefront of emerging legal issues, Jeff is actively engaged in cases and thought leadership at the intersection of artificial intelligence and intellectual property. He recently oversaw an amicus brief in a landmark Third Circuit copyright appeal concerning the use of training data in the development of large language models. Jeff obtained a certificate in AI Strategy for Legal Leaders from Stanford Law School Executive Education.

Beyond his work in intellectual property law, Jeff has served as national coordinating counsel in major product liability cases for a Fortune 200 company, securing wins at summary judgment and verdict, and has represented businesses and entrepreneurs in industries ranging from transportation, sanitation, and recycling to autonomous vehicles and cloud-based security.

Earlier in his career, Jeff clerked for the Honorable Vanessa D. Gilmore of the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Texas. An avid contemporary art collector and painter, Jeff currently chairs the Entertainment Law and Intellectual Property Section of the Los Angeles County Bar Association.
