David R. Wright



David Wright focuses primarily on complex business litigation matters. David’s practice includes the prosecution and defense of business litigation claims, ranging in size (from small business owners to publicly traded companies) and scope. As to scope, David has defended against putative class action claims, prosecuted and defended against business tort and breach of contract claims, prosecuted and defended against statutory claims, e.g., FDCPA, TCPA, and FDUTPA, and prosecuted UCC claims. His practice also involves representation through all stages of litigation, including mediation, all phases of motions practice, trial, and appellate review. Whether in court or arbitration, David applies his insights from clerking with his litigation experience to obtain successful outcomes for clients.

In addition to litigating, David has coordinated with clients on internal strategies for multijurisdiction litigation. He has also assisted clients in creating proactive strategies to reduce risk in current and prospective operations.

Prior to joining Carlton Fields, David served a two-year term as a law clerk to the Honorable Virginia Covington of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida. As a law clerk, David managed an assigned civil docket, drafted proposed orders in civil and criminal cases, drafted jury instructions, advised the judge on legal issues, and aided the judge during trials and hearings. David also worked as an intern with the Florida Supreme Court in Tallahassee and as an elder law initiative intern with the Department of Justice.

  • ‚ÄčTrial counsel in jury trial involving business divorce, resulting in jury verdict awarding client damages.
  • Obtained dismissal with prejudice of putative class action case brought under the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act.
  • Obtained dismissal with prejudice of putative class action case alleging unjust enrichment claims against publicly traded company.
