ACLU of Georgia Awards Carlton Fields’ Gail Podolsky Volunteer Leadership Award

Atlanta, Ga.Carlton Fields is pleased to announce that Shareholder Gail Podolsky is the recipient of the 2019 American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) of Georgia Volunteer Leadership Award. She was recognized for her pro bono contributions on Thursday, May 9, at the organization’s annual membership meeting in Atlanta.
 
Podolsky, who is chair of Carlton Fields’ Technology industry group, was president of the ACLU of Georgia from 2012 to 2019. She now serves as the immediate past president and as national board representative.
 
Podolsky has been involved with the ACLU of Georgia since 2008 and previously chaired the group’s Legal Committee. She has also served as cooperating counsel with the ACLU of Georgia. In that role, Podolsky represented a Muslim woman who was told she could not enter a municipal courtroom unless she removed her religious headgear and was jailed for contempt of court when she protested. On behalf of the ACLU, Podolsky also filed a Freedom of Information Act lawsuit demanding government documents regarding the implementation of the Muslim bans.
 
At Carlton Fields, Podolsky’s practice focuses on the protection, enforcement, and defense of intellectual property with particular emphasis on trademarks, copyrights, patents and trade secrets. She assists clients with managing their brands, protecting inventions and research, and monetizing their intellectual property assets.
