Carlton Fields’ Aaron Weiss Quoted in Law360 on $8 Million Judgement in Favor of TracFone in Phone Trafficking Lawsuit

Carlton Fields telecommunications attorney Aaron Weiss was quoted in a Law360 article about a favorable $8 million judgement into a phone trafficking lawsuit that ended with a win for firm client TracFone Wireless Inc.

The complaint contended that the defendant distributor bought TracFone devices in bulk and then illegally sold them overseas. The multimillion-dollar deal establishes that the defendant is indebted to TracFone for damages, and ensures that the defendant is prohibited from performing any such activity again.

Weiss stated: "TracFone has filed nearly 100 lawsuits of this type in many jurisdictions over the last 15 years and courts have now entered more than 80 permanent injunctions in TracFone's favor and have also entered judgments [totaling] more than $335 million against alleged traffickers.

"I think it's imperative that companies and individuals who are involved in the type of conduct that was alleged in this case, or are thinking about getting involved in this conduct, know that TracFone is very serious about not allowing its phones to get trafficked in this manner,” added Weiss. “TracFone's long record in this area shows that TracFone is committed to taking whatever steps are necessary to stop improper phone trafficking."
