Carlton Fields’ Sylvia H. Walbolt Featured in Article about Trailblazing ACTL Fellows

Carlton Fields Shareholder Sylvia H. Walbolt was featured in an article about the first three women Fellows of the American College of Trial Lawyers (ACTL), showcasing her important contributions to the organization and to the legal community as a whole.

The profile in the ACTL Journal describes Walbolt’s trailblazing achievements throughout her career. She was the first female lawyer hired at Carlton Fields after graduating at the top of her law school class in 1963. Walbolt was the second woman to become a Fellow of the ACTL, one of the most prestigious, invitation-only organizations of trial lawyers in the country.

As an ACTL Fellow, Walbolt has furthered the organization’s commitment to pro bono legal services. She advocated for the creation of the ACTL Access to Justice Committee, served as its first chairperson, and has been an active member ever since, according to the Journal. Additionally, as the first female participant in the ACTL’s U.S.-UK Exchange, she once gave a presentation alongside U.S. Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas.

Walbolt is chair emerita of Carlton Fields and leads the firm’s Appellate and Trial Support Practice.
