White Collar Crime Attorney Michael Yaeger Discusses U.S. Sentencing Guidelines with Wall Street Journal

Carlton Fields Shareholder and Empirical Justice Founder Michael Yaeger was quoted in a Wall Street Journal article, “Ketanji Brown Jackson Hearings Shine Spotlight on Child Pornography Law.”

The article discusses U.S. Supreme Court nominee Ketanji Brown Jackson’s confirmation hearings, which during one hearing her record in sentencing child-pornography offenders became a focus. According to the article, child porn cases made up only a sliver of the matters Judge Jackson handled during more than eight years as a federal trial judge. Her sentences were mostly at or above what probation officers recommended in their pre-sentence reports to the court.

Yaeger provided an analysis for the Wall Street Journal that compared the child pornography sentences imposed by Judge Jackson to those imposed by other federal judges in her district, namely Washington, D.C. Based on his analysis, Yaeger told the Wall Street Journal that Judge Jackson’s sentences seem “well within judicial norms.”
