Bill Sklar Interviewed in Law360: “Florida Lawmakers Eye Property Tax, Housing Affordability”

Bill Sklar was interviewed in a Law360 article titled “Florida Lawmakers Eye Property Tax, Housing Affordability.” The article discusses some key bills before the Florida legislature as it starts its 2026 session. Key priorities for the governor and legislature include property taxes, affordable housing, and the operations of condo associations.

Discussing the nearly two dozen bills to reduce or eliminate property taxes on full-time homes in the state, Sklar said he expected many to fall by the wayside but expected lawmakers to put together a package with proposals aimed at veterans, seniors, or first-time homebuyers. He added that while full elimination seems "not feasible fiscally," the state's surplus fiscal situation provides a basis for reducing taxes and possibly shifting funding for some services to the state's general budget.

Sklar also addressed legislation requiring condo associations with budgets exceeding $500,000 to hire a licensed association manager. Notably, no legislation addresses the termination of associations despite recent court activity. "The private sector wants it fixed. There is no appetite in the Legislature from what I've seen to date to do that," he said. "Stay tuned, but I don't see anything in the immediate future."
