Mark Neubauer Interviewed in the Daily Journal: “Teamsters Challenge California Rules Allowing Driverless Trucks”
Mark Neubauer was interviewed in a Daily Journal article titled “Teamsters Challenge California Rules Allowing Driverless Trucks.” The article discusses a recent lawsuit filed by Teamsters California, which challenges new state regulations opening California roads to testing and eventual development of autonomous heavy-duty trucks.
While safety concerns play a part, Neubauer notes that they are not the legal heart of the case. “It’s not focusing on safety,” he said. “It’s not claiming there’s a risk to fellow drivers or consumers.”
Instead, he said, the lawsuit is primarily an attack on the Department of Motor Vehicles’ assessment of the regulations’ economic consequences — an argument he doubts will carry the day. “Whatever impact it is on the drivers, who are hardworking individuals, it has to be compared to the substantial positive impact on consumers who will ultimately benefit from cheaper delivery of goods and materials,” he said.
