Jillian R. Orticelli Joins Carlton Fields in Hartford

Hartford, Conn. – Carlton Fields is pleased to announce that Jillian Orticelli joined the firm’s Hartford office as an associate. She is a member of the firm’s Labor and Employment practice group.

Orticelli’s practice focuses on employment litigation, investigations, and preventative counseling. She represents public and private clients in state and federal courts and administrative agency proceedings. Her experience includes defense of lawsuits based on discrimination, harassment, retaliation, wrongful discharge, breach of contract, Title IX, and wage and hour claims including Equal Pay Act and FLSA collective action claims. She also handles restrictive covenant and trade secret misappropriation litigation and appellate matters.

Orticelli also represents colleges, universities, and primary and secondary schools advising on matters of student discipline, policies, board governance, disability accommodation, and federal and state regulatory issues including the Department of Labor’s Dear Colleague Letters, the Clery Act, Campus SaVE Act, Title IX, and VAWA. She is involved in investigations of sexual misconduct, harassment, discrimination, and other alleged wrongdoing. She also works closely with education institutions on employment and student issues.

She assists employers in preparing employee handbooks, workplace policies, and employment agreements and advises on compliance issues and employment terminations, including reductions in force. She also conducts employee training seminars and investigations, including diversity, anti-discrimination, and anti-harassment training. 

Orticelli joins Carlton Fields from Jackson Lewis. She served as a law clerk to the Honorable Ellen Ash Peters & Antoinette L. Dupont in the Connecticut Appellate Court from 2011 to 2012, and as a law clerk in the Department of Legal Research for the Connecticut Judicial Branch from 2010 to 2011.

She is a member of the American Bar Association, Connecticut Bar Association, Connecticut Italian American Bar Association, Oliver Ellsworth Inn of Court, Hartford YWCA, and she serves on the board of directors for the University of Connecticut School of Law Alumni Association.

Orticelli earned her J.D. from the University of Connecticut School of Law and her B.A., with honors, from the University of Connecticut.
