Steven J. Brodie Appointed Co-Chair of the 2017-2018 United Way Annual Campaign
Miami, Fla. – Steven J. Brodie, co-managing shareholder of the Carlton Fields Miami office, was recently appointed co-chair of the United Way of Miami-Dade County’s 2017-2018 annual campaign. Each year, the campaign engages more than 350 workplaces and their employees, and thousands of individual contributors in giving, volunteering, and advocating to improve the education, financial stability, and health of the community. A campaign rally is planned for October 3 from 5-7 p.m. at the United Way’s Miami headquarters to officially mark the beginning of the campaign.
Brodie will lead a team of volunteers who work closely with United Way staff to engage and motivate government, businesses, labor unions, faith groups, nonprofits, and everyday citizens to support the community through employee campaigns, individual gifts, special events, and volunteer activities.
“I am proud of the important work that is being performed by the United Way and happy to have the opportunity to be involved with such a worthy cause that brings so much support and goodwill to the community,” Brodie said.
Revenues generated through the annual campaign support United Way’s work, which includes: investing in more than 117 programs at 56 local nonprofit agencies; advocating for better public policy decisions; engaging people in the community to find solutions to emerging issues; and bold initiatives like the United Way Center for Excellence in Early Education, United Way Center for Financial Stability, and Mission United and Youth Institute.
Last year, Brodie served as vice-chair of the United Way’s 17th Annual Mayor’s Ball, which raised more than $1 million to benefit the organization and attracted more than 800 business and community leaders who took part in an evening to celebrate the spirit of community and goodwill.
At Carlton Fields, Brodie focuses his practice on insurance-related litigation, including coverage, defense and regulatory matters. He also frequently handles litigation regarding securities and complex commercial matters. In addition to his litigation practice, he provides professional business guidance and lobbying services.
He holds a number of leadership positions, serving on the Board of Directors of the United Way of Miami-Dade, the Board of Directors and Executive Committee of the Greater Miami Jewish Federation, the University of Miami Citizen’s Board, and the Board of Governors of the Greater Miami Chamber of Commerce.
Brodie is an honors graduate of Tulane University and received his law degree, cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law.
