Carlton Fields Appellate Attorneys Named to Florida Supreme Court Committee on Standard Jury Instructions in Civil Cases

Carlton Fields Miami attorney Jeffrey A. Cohen was named chair of the Florida Supreme Court Committee on Standard Jury Instructions in Civil Cases. His term will begin Jan. 1, 2020, after he completes his current term as vice chair. The Florida Supreme Court also appointed Carlton Fields Tampa attorney Nicholas A. Brown as a full member of the committee. Brown has served as the reporter to the committee since 2017.

The committee, which comprises judges and attorneys from all over the state, prepares standard jury instructions for Florida civil courts. The standard instructions are approved by the Florida Supreme Court.

Cohen has worked on appellate matters or provided trial support in more than 20 states and territories, in both state and federal courts. He primarily represents corporate defendants in high-exposure, often highly publicized cases. Cohen has defended claims against manufacturers of motor vehicles and automotive components, firearms, recreational products, tobacco and a variety of other products. He also has extensive experience representing financial institutions, insurance companies, and other entities in commercial litigation. He earned his J.D., cum laude, from the University of Miami School of Law, and his B.A. from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.

Brown conducts complex litigation both at trial and on appeal and serves as co-chair of Carlton Fields’ Esports and Electronic Gaming Practice. He previously clerked for Judge Nelly N. Khouzam on Florida’s Second District Court of Appeal. Brown earned his J.D. from the University of Florida Levin College of Law and his B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of South Florida.
