Carlton Fields Adds Experienced Appellate Attorney David A. Karp

Karp argues appeals in federal and state courts, including the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Eleventh Circuit, the Florida Supreme Court, and Florida’s district courts of appeal. He also has significant experience representing corporations in class actions and complex commercial litigation at the trial level.
Karp’s approach to appellate advocacy is bolstered by his experience as a former investigative journalist at the St. Petersburg (Fla.) Times (now Tampa Bay Times) through which he gained a unique ability to uncover facts and to craft a compelling story. His work has appeared in the Washington Post, Boston Globe, and Best Newspaper Writing. Karp authored a Florida Law Review article entitled, “Why Justice Thomas Should Speak at Oral Argument,” which has been cited by several publications, including Vanity Fair.
Walbolt, a distinguished Florida Bar board-certified appellate attorney and former president of the American Academy of Appellate Lawyers, added: “David’s unique skillset make him an ideal addition to our team. Our clients will benefit greatly from his specialized knowledge and experience.”

After law school, Karp clerked for Senior U.S. District Court Judge Susan Bucklew. Karp earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from the University of Florida Levin College of Law, and his B.A. in history from Yale University.
