Carlton Fields Continues Meteoric Construction Practice Growth

Nationally Ranked Practice Adds Two in Miami

Miami, Fla. – Carlton Fields has announced that Michael Jay Rune II and Dana Chaaban have joined Carlton Fields’ fast-growing Construction practice. They will work in the firm’s Miami office as shareholder and associate, respectively. With the addition of Rune and Chaaban, Carlton Fields has now added five new attorneys to its construction practice in 2019 alone.

“I’m delighted with the reputation that we, as a firm, have developed in the construction space,” said Steven J. Brodie, Carlton Fields’ Miami office co-managing shareholder. “Of course, our chief goal is to provide exceptional service to our clients. But when we can attract top-level talent like Michael and Dana, it is additional validation that we’re doing something very right.

“We see extraordinary opportunity in the construction space and Michael and Dana will be key components in our continued success,” added Brodie.

Carlton Fields ranks No. 16 nationally in Construction Executive’s inaugural list of “The Top 50 Construction Law Firms.” The publication surveyed hundreds of law firms, ranking them based on criteria such as the number of construction attorneys, the number of states where the firm is licensed to practice, and the age of the firm’s construction practice.

The firm’s Construction practice is consistently recognized as a national leader. Its Construction Litigation practice earned a national first-tier ranking in The Best Lawyers in America 2019 Guide. For the 17th consecutive year, the firm’s Construction practice was ranked No. 1 in Florida in Chambers USA 2019.

“Any attorney who specializes in construction law would see Carlton Fields as a golden opportunity, and I am no different,” said Rune. “This construction practice has a national footprint and an exemplary reputation. Dana and I are excited to be surrounded by such a talented team as we further extend our practice to clients across the country.”

Rune has more than 20 years of experience in construction law and litigation, having represented owners, developers, contractors, subcontractors, and suppliers. He has handled matters related to surety, construction defects, insurance coverage issues, delay claims, and even mortgage fraud recovery. His expertise is complemented by Chaaban, who has deep experience litigating disputes involving claims, liens, and a variety of other insurance issues and contract disputes.

“Michael and Dana set themselves apart with the breadth and depth of their industry knowledge,” said Wm. Cary Wright, chair of Carlton Fields’ Construction practice. “They have represented entities throughout the construction food chain and, as a result, they have a holistic understanding of every matter they undertake.

“Michael and Dana also take a hands-on approach with their clients, spending much of their time on-site with their clients,” added Wright. “The kind of broad background and deep understanding of the players and the processes that they bring to the table will be invaluable to our clients throughout the industry.”

Prior to joining Carlton Fields, Rune was a partner and Chaaban was an associate at the Miami office of Shutts & Bowen, LLP. Rune received his B.A. from the University of Texas and his J.D. from Samford University, Cumberland School of Law. Chaaban earned her B.S. from the University of Florida and her J.D. from Florida International University.
