Carlton Fields Names William P. Sklar as Tallahassee Office Managing Shareholder

Tallahassee, Fla. – Carlton Fields is pleased to announce that the firm has named William P. Sklar as Tallahassee office managing shareholder. Sklar steps into the role as Carlton Fields expands its team of attorneys and government consultants in Florida’s capital city.

Carlton Fields President and CEO Gary L. Sasso said: “We welcome Bill into his expanded role as we thank Chrissy Davis for her 17 years of service to the firm and her achievements as office managing shareholder.”

Sklar will continue to serve as chair of the firm’s Government Law and Consulting Practice and will maintain his robust real estate development and transactional practice.

Sasso continued: “Bill is a dynamic leader committed to the strategic growth of Carlton Fields’ Tallahassee office and government practice. He is known for his collaborative and skillful leadership on significant and important issues, including his most recent and notable current service as chair of The Florida Bar’s Condominium Life Safety Advisory Task Force.”

Sklar added: “I am thrilled to lead Carlton Fields’ Tallahassee office during this exciting time as we continue to add to our client service offerings by strategically expanding our talented team of attorneys and government consultants.”

During his seven years with Carlton Fields, Sklar has built upon his established track record of leadership and service, most recently lauded by The Florida Bar for his leadership of the statewide task force recommending improvements to condo safety in the state in the wake of the tragic Surfside building collapse. Sklar is also a past chair of The Florida Bar’s Real Property, Probate and Trust Law Section’s Condominium and Planned Development Committee. Sklar also serves on the board of governors and executive committee of the American College of Real Estate Attorneys (ACREL).

Prior to joining Carlton Fields, Sklar served as a co-managing partner of an AmLaw 100 firm’s Florida offices and as managing partner of that firm’s West Palm Beach office.

In his legal practice, Sklar represents developers and lenders, assisting them with planning, drafting, and the development of residential, commercial, and complex mixed-use condominiums and planned developments. Sklar also serves as regulatory counsel in compliance matters under numerous federal, state, and local statutes, regulations, and ordinances. Additionally, he represents clients in real estate transactions and financing.

Sklar is an adjunct professor of law at the University of Miami School of Law and a member of the faculty of the LL.M. program in real property, teaching courses in condominium and planned development law and related drafting and litigation since 1980. He is the director of the University of Miami's Ralph E. Boyer Institute on Condominium and Cluster Development, which recently held its 46th institute

Sklar is board certified by The Florida Bar in Real Estate and Condominium and Planned Development Law, and certified by the Florida Supreme Court as a circuit and county court mediator. He earned his J.D. and his B.B.A., magna cum laude, from the University of Miami.
