Litigator Benjamin Stoll Joins Carlton Fields in Washington, D.C.
Washington, D.C. – Carlton Fields is pleased to announce the addition of attorney Benjamin M. Stoll in Washington, D.C. Stoll joins Carlton Fields’ nationally recognized Business Litigation Practice, which includes more than 150 attorneys across the firm’s 11 offices.
Stoll represents clients in a wide variety of complex civil and criminal litigation primarily in the pharmaceutical, biotechnology, telecommunications, and high-tech industries. He will add depth and talent to the firm’s national Class Actions and Insurance Litigation Practice Groups. He has significant experience with all aspects of litigation from pretrial investigations, through motions practice and discovery, to trials and appeals. In recent years, his practice has focused on licensing disputes, antitrust investigations, products liability lawsuits, and False Claims Act allegations.
Stoll has represented corporations and individuals in a broad range of cases at both the trial and appellate levels and in both state and federal courts. He has litigated and advised clients on a wide variety of legal issues, including contract disputes and negotiations, trade secrets, patent validity and infringement, intellectual property licensing, indemnification, shareholder disputes, False Claims Act allegations, and government investigations. Stoll has also represented clients facing government investigations and has helped clients successfully mediate and settle disputes without resorting to formal litigation.

Stoll’s professional experience also includes economic consulting. This unique skill set has proven beneficial in several of his client matters, allowing him to assess contracts with complicated economic terms, work with experts on damages issues, and craft favorable settlement structures.
Stoll is dedicated to pro bono legal work and received Pro Bono High Honors from the District of Columbia Courts and the D.C. Access to Justice Commission for his work representing indigenous and indigent defendants in criminal cases. Stoll successfully defended a Native American journalist who was arrested while covering a protest and charged with engaging in a riot. The journalist was acquitted of all counts, but she was tried with a co-defendant who was convicted. After this conviction, Stoll agreed to represent the co-defendant pro bono and appealed the conviction to the North Dakota Supreme Court, where he succeeded in getting the rioting conviction reversed.
Stoll received his J.D., magna cum laude, from New York University School of Law and his B.A., magna cum laude, from Harvard University. He is admitted to practice in New York, the District of Columbia, District of Maryland, District of North Dakota, and the District of Columbia and the Ninth Circuit Courts of Appeals.
