Gary Sasso Appointed to Tampa Bay Economic Development Council
TAMPA, FL – Garry Sasso was named general counsel of the Tampa Bay Economic Development Council at the council’s annual meeting on November 5. Sasso was appointed alongside the EDC’s new chair, vice chair, and secretary/treasurer.
The EDC works to advance a diversified local economy by attracting, expanding, and retaining quality employers and a talented workforce, and strategic investing within targeted industry sectors. In 2024, the EDC assisted with the expansion of eight local businesses and recruited seven new companies to the area. Over its 15-year history, the EDC has driven nearly $3.7 billion in capital investment within Hillsborough County, creating nearly 42,000 direct jobs, and boosting economic output across Tampa Bay by more than $26 billion.
Sasso is a prominent leader in the legal industry and the broader Tampa Bay community. He was recently named to Florida Trend’s 2024 Florida 500 list of the state’s most influential business leaders. Beyond his role as president and CEO of Carlton Fields, Sasso has held key positions with the Leadership Council on Legal Diversity, the American Law Institute, and the Florida Council of 100, where he leads economic initiatives across the state. His community involvement includes leadership roles with Tampa’s Straz Center for the Performing Arts, the Tampa Bay Partnership, and United Way Suncoast.
