
Overview
Greg Gidus is a litigator with a focus on the insurance industry. He represents insurance clients in sophisticated first-party property and third-party liability coverage matters and other complex coverage disputes involving directors and officers liability insurance, errors and omissions liability insurance, professional liability insurance, employment practices liability insurance, comprehensive general liability insurance, financial institution bonds, and first-party bad faith. Greg has represented and counseled insurers on many types of claims, including construction defect, professional malpractice, cyber fraud, harassment/discrimination, bodily injury, sexual/physical abuse, molestation, and assault. His other litigation experience covers a wide range of matters and industries.
Greg also counsels businesses and other clients on cybersecurity issues and assists in responding to security breaches and data loss incidents, guiding clients through the loss of personally identifiable information and other system compromises.
Greg is a regular contributing writer to PropertyCasualtyFocus, the firm's blog focused on legal developments in property casualty insurance. Prior to joining the firm, he was a law clerk to the Honorable Susan C. Bucklew of the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Florida.
Experience
- Trial counsel for D&O insurer in breach of contract and bad faith action in California state court seeking more than $25 million in attorneys’ fees incurred after breakup of private equity firm. After a three-week jury trial, obtained a complete defense verdict on behalf of insurer client, as well as a substantial recovery of prevailing party costs.
- Obtained judgment on the pleadings for malpractice insurer that received late notice from medical facility of potential claim by former NFL player.
- Represented D&O insurer sued by bankruptcy trustee in the Southern District of Florida seeking $30 million under a Coblentz agreement. Prevailed on summary judgment and appeal, resulting in judgment and substantial fee award in favor of insurer client.
- Obtained summary judgment for excess professional liability insurer based on insured financial service institution failure to provide notice of its $24 million settlement with the government.
- Prevailed on motion to dismiss for general liability carrier based on application of professional services exclusion in Coblentz case brought in Florida state court.
