Overview

Derek Padilla advises health care providers in corporate, transactional, regulatory, and operational matters, including those related to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA), the Stark Law, and the Anti-Kickback Statute, as well as fraud, waste, and abuse issues.

Prior to joining Carlton Fields, Derek served on active duty in the U.S. Air Force as an attorney in the Judge Advocate General’s Corps. In that role, he practiced contract and fiscal law and regulatory compliance, drafting and negotiating complex agreements regarding government contracts, including teaming, joint venture, and intellectual property and manufacturing license agreements. Derek also served as a military prosecutor and special assistant U.S. attorney litigating over a dozen cases to trial. He currently serves in the Air Force Reserve with the 325th Fighter Wing as a captain.
