Carlton Fields Telecommunications Attorneys Win 2019 Most Effective Lawyers Award

Carlton Fields telecommunications attorneys James B. Baldinger, Jennifer A. Yasko, Aaron S. Weiss, and Steven Blickensderfer are recipients of the Daily Business Review’s 2019 Most Effective Lawyers Award. The team was recognized in the intellectual property category for fighting handset trafficking on behalf of firm client TracFone Wireless, Inc.

The attorneys developed innovative new legal claims and obtained dozens of published decisions enforcing TracFone’s rights. In the past 15 years, Carlton Fields has obtained 269 permanent injunctions and final judgments awarding more than $854 million in damages to TracFone and other national wireless service providers in trafficking cases. Most recently, the attorneys won a $10 million judgment and a permanent injunction in the U.S. District Court for the Southern District of Florida against defendants accused of handset trafficking. The litigation was filed following an extensive investigation in Dubai.

“TracFone has filed multiple cases based on our Dubai investigation this year and intends to file more as it works to eradicate illicit trafficking of its handsets,” Baldinger, who leads Carlton Fields’ Telecommunications Industry Group, told the Daily Business Review.
