Trish Carreiro Quoted in Life Annuity Specialist: “Life Insurers Rush to Update Vendor Contracts as AI, Cyber Risks Mount”

Trish Carreiro was quoted in a Life Annuity Specialist article titled “Life Insurers Rush to Update Vendor Contracts as AI, Cyber Risks Mount.” The article examines the recent push to update legacy vendor agreements that expose life insurers to data use disputes and breach risks, potentially leading to regulatory scrutiny and reputational damage.

Carreiro notes one of the biggest weaknesses in these contracts: their outdated data definitions. Agreements drafted before the rise of advanced artificial intelligence tools often rely on narrow or vague language that fails to address nonconfidential data used to train algorithms. “Definitions tend to be the boring section of vendor contracts,” said Carreiro. “But I love that section, and it’s because of all the consequences that can flow from those definitions.”
