Molly Jean Given Quoted in ACLU Minnesota News on Pro Bono Settlement
Molly Jean Given was featured in a press release from the ACLU of Minnesota announcing the settlement of a lawsuit brought by the ACLU of Minnesota and its pro bono partners against the city of Bloomington, Minnesota. The suit was filed on behalf of Kylese Perryman, who was arrested and jailed without probable cause by Bloomington police in September 2021.
The ACLU of Minnesota and pro bono attorneys from Carlton Fields’ Minneapolis office, along with pro bono attorneys from another firm, filed suit on Perryman’s behalf in the U.S. District Court for the District of Minnesota. As a result of the settlement, the city of Bloomington will implement policy and training changes within its police department to prevent similar incidents in the future. The city will also provide monetary damages to Perryman.
“Carlton Fields is committed to putting our time and energy to work for the people and causes that most need them,” said Given. “Hopefully this settlement will be the first step to implementing needed reforms to ensure something like this cannot happen again.”
