Former EEOC Attorney Lucas Michelen Joins Carlton Fields’ Labor and Employment Practice

TAMPA, FL – Lucas Michelen has joined Carlton Fields’ Labor and Employment Practice as of counsel in the firm’s Tampa office. He was most recently acting assistant regional attorney with the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.

Michelen is an accomplished litigator with more than a decade of experience representing clients in complex employment and commercial disputes. During his tenure at the EEOC, he represented the United States throughout Florida in high-impact cases enforcing federal anti-discrimination laws including Title VII, the ADA, and the Equal Pay Act. In addition, Michelen provided legal guidance to EEOC investigators and enforcement staff.

“We are excited to welcome Lucas to the firm,” said Jim Sconzo, chair of Carlton Fields’ Labor and Employment Practice. “His diverse experience at the intersection of government and the private sector strengthens our ability to guide clients through complex employment challenges with insight and precision.”

Earlier in his career, Michelen defended corporate clients in complex commercial and employment litigation at a global law firm, where he also conducted internal investigations involving allegations of fraud, data breaches, and employee misconduct.

“I’m excited to bring clients the unique perspective I have gained from both defending clients in private practice and litigating on behalf of the federal government,” said Michelen. “I was drawn to Carlton Fields because of its outstanding reputation. It’s a place where accomplished lawyers work as a true team and genuinely care about their clients, colleagues, and community.”

Michelen obtained his J.D., cum laude, from Temple University Beasley School of Law and a B.A., cum laude, from Temple University.

Lucas is admitted to practice in New York and New Jersey. Any work done in Florida will be supervised by a licensed Florida lawyer.
