Leading High-Stakes Litigator Jeff Miles Joins Carlton Fields in Los Angeles
LOS ANGELES, CA – Jeff Miles has joined Carlton Fields’ Business Litigation Practice as a shareholder in the firm’s Los Angeles office. He was most recently counsel at Frost LLP. His arrival, along with the recent addition of labor and employment lawyer Frank Olah, marks a strategic expansion of Carlton Fields’ Los Angeles office.
Miles is a strategic trial lawyer with more than a decade of experience representing clients in high-stakes disputes before state and federal courts, as well as in mediation, arbitration, and other alternative dispute resolution forums. His practice spans complex business, intellectual property, internet, First Amendment, entertainment, and media law, as well as partnership and LLC disputes, and securities, corporate governance, and defamation cases.
“We are thrilled to welcome Jeff to the firm,” said Donald Kirk, co-chair of Carlton Fields’ Business Litigation Practice. “His experience navigating complex, high-profile disputes will add immediate value to our clients and enhance our capabilities in Los Angeles and beyond.”
“Jeff is known for bringing clarity for clients, judges, and juries alike to the most complex disputes,” added Michael Hensley, co-chair of the firm’s Business Litigation Practice. “His advocacy spans the entire litigation process, from in-depth pre-filing investigations to trial, post-trial motions, and appeals.”
Miles has deep experience in entertainment, intellectual property, internet, media, and art law. He represents a wide range of clients — from media companies and tech startups to artists and global brands — in multimillion-dollar disputes involving backend profit participation, copyright and trademark infringement, and brand enforcement. He has litigated high-profile copyright matters for filmmakers, major studios, and artists, and his trademark practice spans federal litigation, TTAB proceedings, and prosecution, with a focus on defending cancellation claims and enforcing trademark rights for prominent clients.
At the forefront of emerging legal issues, Miles is actively engaged in cases and thought leadership at the intersection of artificial intelligence and intellectual property. He is currently overseeing an amicus brief in a landmark Third Circuit copyright appeal concerning the use of training data in the development of large language models.
“There are a million reasons to join a firm like Carlton Fields, but for me, it was the natural next step,” said Miles. “The firm has a national presence, a deep trial bench, and a stellar litigation track record. Beyond that, there’s a true culture of collegiality and collaboration that I know will support and strengthen my practice.”
Miles obtained his J.D. from University of California, Los Angeles School of Law, and a B.A. from New York University.
